Material and assembly

A porcelain panel developed as part of the façade system

An exterior panel cannot be selected in isolation from its support structure. LOPO coordinates the ceramic profile with joint layout, fixing grooves, clips, rails, cavity design and adjacent façade details. This helps the design team evaluate appearance, manufacturability and system interfaces before production approval.

Low-absorption ceramic body

Porcelain classification is based on the applicable product standard and verified water-absorption results. For specification work, use the report covering the approved size, body, colour and surface rather than a generic catalogue statement.

Extruded profile flexibility

Extrusion makes hollow sections, edge grooves and selected three-dimensional surfaces possible. Profile feasibility, tooling, tolerances and minimum production quantities are reviewed for each design.

Controlled visual variation

Stone-inspired, timber-inspired, mineral, metallic and solid-colour surfaces can be explored alongside smooth, linear, ribbed, fluted and wave-like profiles. Final appearance is established through an approved physical sample.

Mechanical fixing coordination

Upper and lower edge details can be developed to engage compatible clips and support rails. Anchor spacing, rail type, joints, movement allowance and interfaces remain part of the project engineer’s façade-system design.

The following dimensions are practical starting points for façade planning. Standard modules use a 20 mm hollow extruded profile. Larger or non-standard formats are reviewed against the selected cross-section, surface, firing behaviour, structural demand and logistics before they are accepted for a project.

A requested size within the stated maximum envelope is not automatically available. Length, width and thickness must be approved as one panel configuration.

Performance data matched to the selected panel

A reference light-grey 600 × 300 × 19 mm panel was tested to the ISO 10545 series. Its recorded results included 0.3% water absorption, 7,872 N breaking strength, no visible effect after 100 freeze–thaw cycles, Class 5 stain resistance, UA / GLA chemical resistance and a linear thermal-expansion coefficient of 5.1 × 10−6/°C.

These figures describe that tested configuration only. The report applicable to the approved size, body, colour and surface must be reviewed before specification; results must not be extended automatically to the full range.

The proposed panel profile incorporates fixing interfaces that engage with compatible mechanical clips and support rails. Horizontal and vertical layouts can be developed, but the complete assembly must be designed for the building, substrate and local requirements.

What is an extruded porcelain facade panel?

It is a fired ceramic cladding element shaped by extrusion and developed for use within a project-designed facade assembly. Porcelain classification depends on the applicable standard and verified product test results.

How is an extruded porcelain panel different from a conventional terracotta panel?

Both can be extruded ceramic products with hollow profiles. “Porcelain” describes a denser, lower-absorption body when the applicable classification is met. Selection should compare approved samples, test reports, surface intent and facade-system requirements.

What panel sizes are available?

Standard planning modules are 800 × 400, 1200 × 600 and 1500 × 600 mm at a nominal 20 mm thickness. Project-developed panels may be reviewed up to 3000 mm long and 990 mm wide, with selected thicknesses of approximately 18–25 mm. Every combination remains subject to profile, surface, firing, structural, packing, transport and fixing-system confirmation.

Can the panels be installed horizontally and vertically?

Both layouts may be developed, subject to the panel profile, clips, rails, joint arrangement, wind-load design and project approval.

Can LOPO develop custom colours and textures?

Natural/mineral, stone-inspired, timber-inspired, metallic-look and glazed colour directions can be explored with plain, honed, sandblasted, brick-textured, ribbed/fluted or wavy surfaces. Availability depends on the selected profile, quantity and production review, and a physical approval sample is required before production.

Are the panels suitable for cold or coastal climates?

Suitability should be established using product-specific test evidence together with the complete facade-system design. Do not rely on a general climate claim for every size, finish or fixing arrangement.
